Steven A. Sigsbury joined Cochran in 2014, became a partner in 2019, and focuses his practice on sophisticated estate and tax planning, estate and trust administration, fiduciary matters, and business and real estate planning.  Steven brings a practical, approachable style to his practice, developing strong relationships with clients and helping them navigate complex legal and tax issues with clarity and confidence. He takes particular pride in distilling complicated issues into understandable terms and developing thoughtful, individualized solutions.

As an estate and tax planner, Steven works closely with individuals, families, business owners, and fiduciaries to develop tax-efficient estate plans that accomplish their personal, charitable, and business objectives. His planning emphasizes flexibility while addressing applicable federal and state estate, gift, income, and fiduciary tax considerations.  Steven advises clients on a broad range of matters, including wealth transfer planning, asset protection, charitable giving, life insurance planning, estate and gift taxation, fiduciary income taxation, business succession and valuation, and the transfer of closely held and private equity interests.

Steven has been recognized by Washingtonian magazine as a Top Financial Adviser from 2024 through 2027 and has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® from 2024 through 2027.

Steven is an active member of the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council and has been a member of the Loudoun County Estate Planning Council since 2020.  He also holds membership in the trusts and estates and taxation sections of the Virginia, District of Columbia, and Colorado bar associations.

Steven lives in Willowsford, Virginia, with his wife and two daughters.  He is an ardent fan of the University of Virginia and all of the D.C. professional sports teams.
